At the end of last month, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang stated in a global media Q&A that regarding the competition between NVIDIA chips and Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), he firmly believes NVIDIA’s growth rate will continue to outpace ASICs.
Huang’s reasoning is that while many ASIC projects will emerge worldwide, approximately 90% of them will fail, much like startups that constantly appear but mostly end in failure. Even if some survive, they may struggle to remain viable in the long term.
In contrast, Huang believes it is not difficult for NVIDIA to maintain its momentum, which he sees as his responsibility. Given NVIDIA’s rapid pace, anyone aiming to develop an ASIC would need to create one superior to NVIDIA’s offerings.
Huang noted that market competition is indeed fierce, but NVIDIA’s technological progress is swift, with continuous architecture optimization and efforts to reduce costs quickly, leading to widespread adoption. ASICs must compete not only with NVIDIA but also among themselves.
